New Member Orientation and Training
Personal Support Worker (PSW) orientation and training is provided through Carewell. Complete a PSW application before you begin training.
Effective September 1, 2021, the Oregon Administrative Rules require:
Each person newly enrolled as a PSW attend a new worker orientation in order to receive their provider number and begin working.
New PSWs must complete 8.5 additional hours of training within the first 120 days after receiving their provider number.
Orientations in Other Languages
Trainings for PSWs are offered in multiple languages for individuals who do not use English as their main language.
Ongoing Training Opportunities
Carewell also provides ongoing training opportunities for home care and personal support workers. Effective September 1, 2021, current PSWs are required to take a refresher training course of 12.5 total hours (due March 31, 2022). All training is currently being offered online and is self-paced.

FAQs about PSW Training
What if I don’t have access to a computer, smart phone or tablet?
PSWs who do not have access to a computer, smart phone or tablet may request a paper packet to be mailed to them. Packets can be requested for new member orientation and training, as well as current PSW refresher training. Paper packets are currently taking approximately 4 weeks to arrive, so order them early.

What if my first language is not English, or I would prefer to complete the training in a different language?

Do I get any compensation for completing my training?
New PSWs do not recieve a stipend, but existing PSWs do. Once current PSWs complete their refresher training, they will receive a $200 stipend and be entered to win prizes up to $1000. Make sure to update your personal information in the Carewell portal to ensure the stipend will be mailed to your correct address.

eXPRS System & Support
The eXPRS system is used to log PSW hours and mileage. All PSWs are required to complete their eXPRS orientation within 90 days of receiving their provider number. Learn more about eXPRS orientation and support.
